The Third Bell
A missing sister. A falsified signal. One storm to decide what the truth will cost Greyhaven.
Listen closely. Choose carefully. Carry the consequences.
A fallen tree blocks the coastwatch lane. Below it, the cargo ship North Star waits beyond the buoy. A pilot boat circles her bow with a white lamp swinging from its rail. Mrs Vale catches up on her bicycle. She has arranged a warm room for Finn and alerted coastwatch that Mara is missing. Now she points toward the ship. The inspection engineers are aboard. If she grounds tonight, nobody examines that tower tomorrow. A horn rolls across the water. On the hill, the keeper's light settles over the inner passage. Mrs Vale has one more warning: coastwatch's aerial cable was cut at noon. Their operator is trying to rig a replacement, but the storm is moving faster than the repair crew. Stone steps descend to the old signal tunnel. A red thread hangs from the ivy. Above you, the ridge offers a clear view of the lighthouse balcony and that answering lamp. You leave the bicycle beneath the tree. Mara knew both routes. Someone is expecting everyone else to remain safely indoors.
